Geo-Environmental Engineer

PJA Engineering are looking to recruit a geo-environmental engineer to join our land development team. This position is an excellent opportunity to be at the heart of an exciting and growing young business.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the hands-on management and technical delivery of a range of geo-environmental projects on a wide variety of greenfield and brownfield development sites. They will be expected to have a good understanding of a range of geo-environmental and geotechnical issues and how they interact in a development context.

A strong background in site work is required including the designing, procuring and management of geo-environmental and geotechnical site investigations. The candidate will have proficient analytical and interpretive reporting skills and will be supported to develop and enhance their technical knowledge.

The candidate will ideally have:

  • A degree in a relevant geo-environmental or geotechnical discipline.
  • Be Chartered or working towards Chartership.
  • Good knowledge of site investigation techniques, implementation and management.
  • Experience of writing geo-environmental interpretation reports including the formulation of conceptual site models and the preliminary assessment of human health and controlled water impacts.
  • Experience of assessing the geotechnical aspects of ground conditions including soil properties for preliminary foundation appraisals and earthworks design.
  • Understand the implications of waste legislation.
  • Understanding of the wider engineering aspects of redevelopment, including the interactions of road infrastructure, ecology, topography, drainage and flooding.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Experience of meeting attendance to discuss issues with clients and project team members.
  • Understanding of the regulatory framework governing the assessment of contaminated land and water.
  • Good time management and organisational skills with the ability to maintain good records
  • Experience of contributing to in-house or client project teams, managing resources and delivering projects on time and to a budget.
  • Ability to establish new client relationships to help develop and grow the business

Civil Engineer

PJA Engineering are looking to recruit an Engineer to join the Civils design team. This exciting opportunity will involve working with a friendly team of specialist design engineers to assist in the delivery of the design of both highways and drainage. 

This is an excellent opportunity for the right individual to help develop a strategically important sector of the business and the successful person will be key in building the business.

The candidate will ideally have:
  • A degree in civil engineering or similar (relevant post graduate experience would be an advantage; however recent graduates would also be considered).
  • A knowledge and understanding of civil design principles, in particular highways and drainage.
  • A knowledge of highway design standards would be advantageous – DMRB, Manual for Streets and NRSWA.
  • Experience in the design of both residential and commercial developments including infrastructure, external works, drainage and SuDS would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of both highway and drainage adoption processes and legal requirements for S104, S278 and S38.
  • An understanding and use of software packages (such as AutoCAD, Civils 3D and Micro Drainage).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good time management and organisational skills with the ability to maintain good records.

Senior Civil Engineer

PJA Engineering are looking to recruit a Senior Civil Engineer / Associate to join the Civils team who is keen to embrace the role of Technical Lead for Major Highways. The candidate will provide technical expertise to ensure that highway designs are prepared in accordance with current legislation, best practice, council policies and to the highest technical standards. They will be responsible for providing technical advice and guidance regarding highway maintenance to ensure delivery to agreed timescales.

In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop their own team, providing technical mentoring to more junior team members.

The candidate will ideally have:

  • A degree in civil engineering or similar with 10 years' relevant post graduate experience.
  • A strong knowledge of infrastructure design, both highways and drainage.
  • Thorough understanding of Section 278 design and approval processes.
  • Detailed knowledge of highway design standards – DMRB, Manual for Streets and NRSWA.
  • Experience in the design of commercial developments including infrastructure, external works and drainage including SuDS.
  • Knowledge of highway and drainage adoption processes and legal requirements for S104, S278 and S38.
  • Comprehensive understanding and use of software packages including AutoCAD, Civils 3D and Micro Drainage.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience of meeting attendance to discuss issues with clients, architects, contractors, local authorities and other statutory bodies.

Senior Flood Risk & Drainage Engineer

PJA Engineering are looking to recruit a Senior Flood Risk and Drainage Engineer to join the Civils design team. This exciting opportunity will involve working with a friendly team of specialist design engineers to deliver Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies for private sector clients, housing developments and Local Authorities.

The ideal candidate will have a background in delivering Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, as well as the production and co-ordination of foul and surface water drainage design, river restoration/design, environmental impact assessment and other civil engineering works within the water/environment industry.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right individual to help develop a strategically important sector of the business and the successful person will be key in building the business.

The candidate will ideally have:

  • At least a higher education qualification in a relevant science discipline (however consideration would also be given to suitable candidates with relevant experience)
  • At least five years' post-graduate experience in a relevant position
  • Chartered status or working towards Chartered status (ICE/CIWEM) would be an advantage
  • Comprehensive in delivering Flood Risk Assessments and outline and detailed Drainage Strategies
  • A strong drainage capability (storm and foul)
  • A good understanding of drainage design and the specification of SUDS
  • Knowledge of river restoration scheme design, fluvial geomorphology and EIA/WFD compliance assessments would be an advantage
  • An understanding of legislations such as NPPF, Flood and Water Management Act, Water Framework Directive and best practice in association with drainage, flood risk and the water environment
  • Knowledge of hydraulic modelling techniques, Microdrainage, FEH, AutoCAD and GIS
  • Experience of meeting attendance and liaising with clients, architects, contractors, local authorities and other statutory bodies
  • Good report writing skills
  • Strong organisational, communication and time management skills
  • Takes a practical approach to problem solving
